Red Monkey Theater Group Now In Residence
at the College of Mount Saint Vincent
Cahill Theater to Host 2012-2013 Season
In Fall 2012, Red Monkey Theater Group will begin a new residency on the beautiful campus of the College of Mount Saint Vincent, in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. RMTG looks forward to providing access to live theater to students, faculty, and local audiences in a new performance space, Cahill Theater. This playing space is ideally suited to the personal, thoughtful performance style and intimate staging that have long been RMTG hallmarks.
Theater is in the College of Mount Saint Vincent’s DNA; legendary 19th century Shakespearean actor Edwin Forrest once owned much of the land on which the campus now sits, including Fonthill Castle, a beloved campus landmark that once served as Forrest’s residence. The actor designed it to resemble the Scottish domicile inhabited by one of his favorite on-stage characters, Macbeth.
Our inaugural season at the College of Mount Saint Vincent includes a production of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya in a new adaptation by Carolyn J. Fuchs, William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Tal Aviezer, reasons to be pretty by Neil LaBute, directed by Holland Renton, as well as original dance performances featuring the work of choreographers Danielle Aviezer, Jessica Burns, and Dina-Verley Saab-Mills. For more information on the 2012-2013 season, visit our homepage.
RMTG is excited by the opportunity to help create a unique performance space at the school, and to program that space with exciting presentations of theater and dance. Our goals are to enhance the College’s presence as cultural center and a destination, enrich the arts experience of the school community, welcome new audiences into the space, and develop a prestigious and unique performance venue for our company.
